Almost ready!

It has been 1 month since my knee surgery. The swelling is very minimal now. I believe I am ready to start back up. I worked upper body and did yoga at a minimum to maintain my weight. Monday June 22nd, I am starting over P90X from day 1. I feel I missed too many days. It will be really fun bringing it at almost 100%. I hope you are ready to bring it with me. http://www.HawaiiBeachBodies.com

Rest

I have decided to rest as recommended by my physical therapist. Been walking around too much and I am slowing the healing process. I am still losing weight by eating right. So maintaining is not a problem. See you in a week. Be ready to push play.

To rest or workout!

It is day 4 after my surgery. I am anxious to get back to my routine. The physical therapist advised to stay away from squats and any impact. I have been doing the leg strengthening routines the PT has given me. It doesn't feel like enough. This is supposed to be my second recovery week in P90X. I guess I planned the surgery just right. I can recover from the knee surgery and with a little more effort I should be back to the normal routine next week. I am keeping a balanced diet. I retained a little water the day after surgery, but that has since been released. I am 245 pounds as of this morning. I started at 272 pounds. I am well on my way to meet my goal of less than 200. When you think about it. Dropping 45 pounds sounds a lot easier than dropping 72. Baby steps is how to do it. Be patient and keep pushing play.

Tips to Prevent Muscle Soreness

When going through any exercise program, you will have some muscle soreness no matter what you do. But if you follow these tips you can keep your soreness to a minimum.

Start your program slowly. Don't go too hard on Day 1 after you've had a layoff. Stop before you're completely wiped out.

Warm up. Always take 5 to 10 minutes to warm up thoroughly.

Stretch afterward. Always stretch at the end of your workout—5 to 10 minutes spent stretching will do wonders for your recovery time.

Have a post-exercise snack. A snack that is 4 parts carbs to 1 part protein greatly speeds up your recovery.

Self-massage. Spend 5 minutes giving yourself a massage each night. A professional massage is better, of course, but not nearly as practical. Spend 5 minutes and you'll sleep better and recover quicker.

P90X helped my hypertension!

My surgery went great yesterday, but I was floored on how well my blood pressure was. While I was in the US Navy, I was on blood pressure medication for 15 years. I thought that I would be using it for life. With some lifestyle changes, my hypertension has be rectified. During my time in service I averaged 140/92 bp with medication. I have been doing P90X by Beachbody for about 7 weeks now. My doctor has removed me from my blood pressure medications. They are no longer necessary. I have drop 26 lbs, 8 inches from my midsection and 11% bodyfat so far. While getting my vital signs taken yesterday before my surgery I was shocked to see my blood pressure was 117/80. WOW!! That is all I could say. I didnt believe it and asked the nurse to retake it. The next time was 118/79 and for the rest of my time in the hospital remained at a good level. So if there is no other reason to get into shape here is one. Do yourself a favor and get healthy. You owe it to your body, your family, and your friends. The people that love you do not like to see you suffer. Find out why you want to achieve your goals and make that your motivation. I have children that I want to support and be there for. That's my why. What is your? Look at my results here and join me in a life of health and fitness. Make your why a reality!!!
